Ubuntu is officially released in multiple editions: Desktop, Server and Core for Internet of things devices and robots. 

Ubuntu Desktop, is secured modern operating system, powers millions of PCs and Laptops around the world. It has always been free to download, use and share. 

Ubuntu 24.04.1 LTS: This is latest LTS version of Ubuntu for desktop PCs and laptops. LTS stands for Long Term Support - which means five years of free security and maintenance update, extended up to 12 years with Ubuntu Pro. Pro version is also free for individual user and up to five devices of institution. 

Ubuntu 24.10 : This is latest version of Ubuntu operating system for desktop PCs ad laptops and it comes with 9 months of security and maintenance update, until July 2025. 

For instance, 24.10 means it was released in October 2024. New LTS version in each 2 years and non LTS/regualr version in nine months will be released by Canonical (the company behind the OS) with new features and updates.
